Transit Study

The Local Link team is analyzing possible transit improvements to 1300 East and Highland Drive to better connect Sugar House, Millcreek and Holladay and to give these growing populations more convenient travel choices. New transit options could include enhanced bus service, a streetcar extension or a bus rapid transit (BRT) solution.

Fill out a short transit survey to tell us how you use transit today and what transit options you’d like in the future. Your input will be used to shape the ongoing transit study, so sign up for email updates to stay informed on next steps.

HOW DID WE GET HERE?

Salt Lake City, South Salt Lake, Millcreek and City of Holladay teamed up on Local Link to improve future connectivity between these cities through walking, biking and transit solutions. They worked together to develop transportation priorities to guide the effort and receive input from the public to influence its outcomes.

The ongoing transit study is being done to address population and traffic projections for 2050, since we know we won’t be able to rely on cars alone to keep people moving between Sugar House, South Salt Lake, Millcreek and Holladay in the future. It is vital to plan for future by looking ahead of where we are now and envision what changes will be needed between now and 2050 to make sure we are ready to move people efficiently and safely.

The Local Link team has gathered data and analyzed four types of transit: streetcar, light rail, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and enhanced bus along two main routes: 1300 East and Highland Drive. Now, we need your help to understand which option best meets the needs of these cities in the future.  This study is the first step toward a future transit improvement.
